As many of you that attended the last Stunt Community Meeting(last Dec.) or the Stunt Coordinator Meeting (in May) are aware, there will be some mandatory and/or strongly recommended courses coming to all of us in 2017.
The world we work in has been changing and there is a lot more pressure being exerted on all film industry workers to understand the WorkSafeBC regulations and for everyone to understand their roles and responsibilities when it comes to health and safety at work.
When this stuff really comes into play is when something goes wrong. What is it that WorkSafeBC will be asking you (the Stunt Coordinator) for if something bad happens on your watch ??? Do you know???
The below courses are intended to help you understand what to do, what not to do, what your roles and responsibilities are as workers and supervisors, how to ensure you are compliant with the regulations and help ensure worker safety.
FYI, Actsafe is in the process of creating 3 new
Film Industry specific courses:
1) A Supervisor Training/Responsibilities Course (affects ALL Stunt Coordinators and ALL Key Riggers or anyone else who 'gives direction' to workers)
2) An industry wide Health and Safety Course for all workers in the film industry (all workers, all unions, top to bottom)
3) A course to train Joint Occupational Health & Safety Committeemembers (affects only a few 'worker and employer reps' that are elected to be on the Joint Committees)
I will have more information for you about all these courses, how the will be offered and who will need to take them in the next few months.
The aim is for these courses to be ready by Jan, 2017.
If anyone wants to get a jump on their education and better understand how the regulations work and what is expected of you as workers or supervisors under the laws of BC, please see the below information.
The BC Federation of Labour regularly puts on a multitude of courses that are relevant to what we do and there are a bunch of courses coming up in October that would help anyone understand their roles and responsibilities in BC.
These courses are not film industry specific but the principles apply to all industries.
