(BC & AB) Stunt Community:
The Stunt Committee and Union staff involved with CBA negotiations for UBCP Master Production Ageement are having a focus group meeting to discuss Stunt-related issues for next round of bargaining August 30th.
So far these are the issues that seem to be of highest importance to the Stunt Community as a whole:
1. Having a Canadian Stunt Coordinator on all shows that require a
Stunt Coordinator,
2. Increasing the producers contribution for I&R
3. Establishing fair rates for New Media
4. Establish firmer punishment for collective agreement violations
5. Identify and correct ambiguous wording regarding "Use Fees" ie. proxy work on
reference shots.
Jeff Young, the lead negotiator, has a wealth of experience and is open to pressing stunt issues at the bargaining table. He is very pragmatic though and suggests that we provide him with materials, documentation to bolster and support his (our) causes.
It is apparent that one of the major concerns of the stunt community for this round of bargaining is the issue of having a Canadian Coordinator on set. We need to provide him with arguments and documentation if we are to get movement on this issue.
We need members of the Stunt Community to write letters to Jeff Young and Jodi Kiceluk at the Union to show support for these issues and any others you might have.
In your letters, mention the issues that are important to you and WHY you think they are important. Also, it would be helpful where you detail your personal experiences on those issues -- good or bad.
The purpose of these letters is two-fold:
1. It is your chance to communicate to the union which issues are important to you prior to the start of negotiations with Producers,
2. We need to demonstrate to the Union staff that there is SUBSTANTIAL support for those (stunt) issues within our community.
There will be a lot of important issues on the table this round of bargaining (including usage fees for New Media) so issues that are perceived to have low importance or affect relatively few union members could get dropped from the agenda.
IF THESE ISSUES ARE IMPORTANT TO YOU, YOU NEED TO DO YOUR PART!
Write a letter to the union expressing your support!!!
