This 1 day workshop includes lecture, breathing exercises, and pool work. Students are introduced to the particular risks of working in cold water, how to enter cold water to mitigate risks, adaptation and tolerance to cold water, and risks including immersion shock, swim failure and hypothermia. In addition they are introduced to breath hold and the specific risks for diving on a breath hold (freediving) as opposed to scuba diving, and the safety requirements for freediving.
The work is adapted for work in the film and television industry. Sometimes you have prep time, sometimes you don't. How can you prepare yourself mentally and physically for not only the challenges of cold water or breath hold, but also with the specific challenges of film work? (Eg: not being able to pinch your nose to equalize.)
During the classroom portion students learn theory and perform breathing exercises and a breath hold. In the pool students perform another breath hold and are introduced to rescue techniques for freediving.
