INTRODUCTION TO COLD WATER & BREATH HOLD for FILM & TV
This 1 day workshop runs includes lecture, breathing exercises, and pool work. Students are introduced to the particular risks of working in cold water, how to enter cold water to mitigate risks, adaptation and tolerance to cold water, and risks including immersion shock, swim failure and hypothermia. In addition they are introduced to breath hold and the specific risks for diving on a breath hold (freediving) as opposed to scuba diving, and the safety requirements for freediving.
The work is adapted for stunt performers and safety divers in the film and television industry. Sometimes you have prep time, sometimes you don't. How can you prepare yourself mentally and physically for not only the challenges of cold water or breath hold, but also with the specific challenges of film work? (Eg: not being able to pinch your nose to equalize.)
During the classroom portion students learn theory and breathing exercise and perform a breath hold. In the pool students perform another breath hold and are introduced to rescue techniques for a freediver.
Students will need a yoga mat or towel to lay down on, wetsuit, bathing cap or hood (optional), neoprene socks (optional), fins, weight belt & weights, mask and snorkel. Cost for this course is $350.00/student. There are a maximum of 16 spaces in this class.
Specifics for Toronto:

Testimonials from the previous workshops:
I recommend Oceanoid's "Cold Water Safety and Breath Hold Class" to any film personnel who works in or around our frigid waters. With special attention on keeping actors and stunt performers safe, Roberta lays out some guidelines and techniques to achieve this goal.
The breath-hold portion is a glimpse into the world of the Free Diver. Where we learn how to stay under water a little longer, giving our Directors a better chance of getting that last take.
As an Actor, a stuntman and a Safety Diver, this class has proven to be an asset in my training.

Excellent course, amazing teachers. I highly recommend taking any course with Roberta and sharing in her knowledge and love of the ocean.

Roberta and her team were very detail oriented when it came to the safety aspects of 'newcomers' into freediving. It was calming to know all the dangers, risks and joys that come out of freediving and am so stoked to know that they will be offering more courses like this in the future. As a stunt performer, I feel that this is a HUGE step into the safety sides of things when dealing with water, actors, gases, etc. I would highly recommend Roberta and her team for anyone wanting to feel more comfortable in the water and/or wanting to push themselves as an athlete.

The course itself was well done, informative and relevant to what we do. I would love to keep pushing the limits of breath hold, as a rookie getting 2 1/2 minutes blew my mind. I know I can get better. When is the next course? It may be cool to actually get into the cold water on the next course.
